TAB 5GVRLA18: a compact AGM battery for alarms and emergency equipment

The 5GVRLA18 (12V 18Ah) is the smallest model in the TAB 5GVRLA range, built with AGM technology and high-purity raw materials. Its compact footprint — just 181 x 76 x 167 mm and 5.4 kg — makes it the natural choice whenever available space is limited: alarm control panel enclosures, small electrical cabinets, portable emergency equipment or entry-level UPS units.

An AGM battery built for tight spaces

Like the rest of TAB's AGM family, the electrolyte is absorbed into a microporous fiberglass mat, giving it an immediate response to current spikes (up to 270 A over 5 seconds) with no maintenance required. It's a sealed battery, so it can be installed vertically or horizontally depending on the housing equipment.

Key strengths

  • "Standard Commercial" classification under EUROBAT.
  • Low self-discharge (≤3% per month), suitable for equipment left in standby for long periods.
  • High gas recombination efficiency and maximum charge efficiency.
  • Compact, lightweight design (5.4 kg), easy to fit into small equipment.
  • Vertical or horizontal installation, maintenance-free.

An important note on design life

Unlike the higher-capacity models in the 5GVRLA range (10-year design life), this 18Ah model has a 5-year design life at 25°C, matching its "Standard Commercial" EUROBAT classification. Worth keeping in mind when comparing models within the same series.

Applications

Alarm and security systems

Its compact size and float-mode reliability make it one of the most common batteries used in alarm control panels, access control panels and backed-up video surveillance systems.

Small-scale UPS and EPS

Backup power for compact UPS units and emergency power systems (EPS) where high capacity isn't needed, but reliability and small size are.

Emergency lighting and generator starting

Emergency luminaires, safety signage, and also as a support battery for starting small generators.
