Orion XS: Redefining adaptive DC-DC battery charging

The Orion XS has been designed from the ground up to redefine adaptive DC-DC battery charging. It is ideal for dual battery systems charged with a smart alternator, ensuring not only exceptional performance but also system safety. This device can operate as a DC-DC battery charger or as a power supply, offering a wide input and output voltage range. This is particularly useful in vehicles with Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternators, which often provide insufficient charging voltage even with the engine running, or when there are voltage drops on long cables, common in boats and RVs. In these cases, precise and controlled charging is crucial to fully charge the service battery and protect the starter battery from discharge.

Key Features

• Adjustable charging current: The charging current can be adjusted in a minimum step of 0.1 A via VictronConnect.
• Smart alternator compatibility: A built-in mechanism detects whether the engine is running, activating the charger only when the alternator supplies power, ensuring that the charger only draws power when the engine is running.
• 4-stage adaptive charging algorithm: For lead-acid batteries, the absorption time is adjusted to prevent overcharging. After a deep discharge, the absorption time is automatically increased. Orion XS includes programmable charging algorithms and eight pre-programmed settings.
• Low temperature shutdown and input undervoltage protection: The charger automatically shuts off at low temperatures to protect lithium batteries and also when the input voltage drops below a configurable value, restarting when the voltage rises, to protect the starter battery from deep discharge.
• Remote on/off: Can be controlled remotely via the on/off connector or via the VictronConnect app, ideal for battery management systems (BMS).
• Comprehensive electronic protection: Overcharge, short circuit and excessive temperature protections, with output power reduction at high temperatures.
• Parallel connection: Multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output current.
• Bluetooth Smart enabled: Allows configuration, monitoring and updating of the charger. Orion XS software via mobile devices with the VictronConnect app.
• VE.Smart Networking: Uses wireless data to optimize charging parameters, improving efficiency and extending battery life.
• VE.Direct and DVCC Port: Allows wired connection to GX devices for advanced monitoring and control from anywhere, as well as DVCC for more efficient system control.
